Firing Line – Cardiff Castle Museum of the Welsh Soldier

This is an exhibition within the Cardiff Castle Interpretation Centre commemorating 300 years of the 1st The Queens Dragoon Guards and The Royal Welsh. Soldiers from these two regiments, the former cavalry, the latter infantry, have taken part in most of Britain's conflicts including the Battle of Waterloo 1815, the Battle of Ramillies in 1706 and the Anglo-Zulu war of 1879 as well as recent service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Battle of Fishguard 1797

This was the last invasion of Britain by a foreign military force, during the War of the First Coalition in 1797. Troops from revolutionary France landed at Carregwastad Head near Fishguard as a diversion in support of Wolfe Tone's Irish Republicans. Many of the invaders were irregulars whose discipline quickly broke down. After a brief clash with a hastily assembled local force of reservists, militia and sailors under Lord Cawdor the French quickly capitulated. The Royal Oak pub, where Cawdor made his headquarters, still stands on Fishguard Square.

South Wales Borderers Museum, Brecon

The museum of the 24th Regiment of Foot, housed in the barracks at Brecon. Its' outstanding collection of weapons includes examples of guns from the 18th century to the present and its medal room contains over 3000 medals. Perhaps the greatest draw is the Zulu War room, detailing the regiment's exploits during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 during which 11 Victoria Crosses were won..

Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum

Based in the Custom House in Gloucester Docks, the museum is dedicated to the history of the Gloucestershire Regiment and its antecedents the 28th and 61st Regiments of Foot and The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars. The collection contains artefacts accumulated over 300 years with displays devoted to specific campaigns from the War of the Spanish Succession to the First Gulf War

Cheseapeake Mill Battle off Cape St Ann  1813

The historical significance of this fine building arises first of all from the timbers used in its construction. These timbers come from the United States frigate Chesapeake, which was captured by the Royal Navy during the War of 1812.  the Battle of Boston Harbor, was fought  between the frigates HMS Shannon and USS Chesapeake on 1 June 1813. The Chesapeake was captured in a brief but intense action in which over 80 men were killed.

Shropshire Regimental Museum

Housed within Shrewsbury Castle, the museum holds the collections of the four Shropshire Regiments – the King's Shropshire Light Infantry, Shropshire Yeomanry, Shropshire Royal Horse Artillery and 4th Btn King's Shropshire Light Infantry TA. The displays include pictures, uniforms, medals, silverware, weapons and other artefacts from the 18th century onwards. The exhibition traces the story of the Shropshire Regiments through the French Wars of 1793-1815, the two world wars and the Korean War.

13th/18th Royal Hussars (QMO) and The Light Dragoons Museum - Barnsley

The Collection covers the history of the 13th/18th Royal Hussars with a series of displays illustrating the life of the Regiment in peace and war from 1715 to the present time. Exhibits relate to the Battle of Waterloo, Charge of the Light Brigade, Boer War, both World Wars and The Light Dragoons’ involvement in more recent operations. i.e.The former Yugoslavia, Iraq and Afghanistan 2009 where the LD Battlegroup led the operation "Panther's Claw". This is the  museum of a country Regiment raiosed in 1705 for service against the French.  The musuem tells the story of the Regmient from the near death sentence of service in the West Indies in the 18th Century, battles against Napoleon in Flanders and Spain, police duties in England and Ireland, 

Eastbourne Redoubt

The Eastbourne Redoubt was built between 1804 and 1810 to support the associated Martello towers in defending against the threat of an invasion by Napoleon. It is now the largest military museum in south east England. It contains military collections of The Royal Sussex Regiment who moved to the museum in 1983, The Queen's Royal Irish Hussars and the founding collection, the Sussex Combined Services. In addition the museum also features displays on the History of the British Army, the Life of the Redoubt display and a model of the Redoubt Fortress.

Royal Logistic Corps Museum

Based in Deepcut Camberley, the RLC museum tells the story of logistical support to the British Army from the time of Oliver Cromwell to the present. Essex Regiment Museum

Part of the Chelmsford Museum, this collection traces the history of the regiment from 1741 to the present. Memorabilia and trophies include the Salamanca Eagle captured from the French 62nd regiment at the Battle of Salamanca in 1812. The museum also holds the collection of the Essex Yeomanry.
